Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Who can apply to the Summer of Research?

The program is open to undergraduate and first year master's students interested in research and innovation in Computer Science and related areas.

Should the CV and motivation letter be written in English?

Yes. As a general rule, all application documents and responses should be written in English, especially for projects supervised by international mentors, since they will be responsible for evaluating the applications.

I will finish my degree this year. Can I still apply to the Summer of Research?

Yes. Students who are completing their degree this academic year are still eligible to apply, as long as they meet the program requirements.

Can I apply to more than one project?

Yes. Applicants may apply to multiple projects (up to 5). All selected projects must be ranked in order of preference, as this ranking will be taken into account during the selection process. You should also ensure that your motivation letter is relevant to the selected projects.

Are international students allowed to apply?

Yes. International students are welcome to apply, and some projects may be conducted entirely in English.

How are candidates selected?

Candidates are evaluated based on their academic background, CV, motivation letter, relevant skills, and, where applicable, their answers to project-specific questions. In some cases, candidates may also be invited to an interview with the mentor.

Can I participate if I have no previous research experience?

Yes. Previous research experience is not mandatory. Motivation, curiosity, and willingness to learn are highly valued.

Will participants receive a scholarship or financial support?

Some projects may provide a research grant or other financial support. This will be specified within Individual project descriptions. For more information, please contact the organization or assigned mentors post candidate selection.

If I am applying to more than one project, can I be selected for multiple?

Applicants may apply to multiple projects, but selected participants will normally be assigned to only one project. In exceptional cases (e.g., if selected for more than one project by the same mentor) the applicant may be asked to select between assigned projects.

Is participation remote, in person, or hybrid?

The working format may vary by project, although lab stays and in-person meetings with mentors are encouraged whenever possible. Some curricular activities will be mandatory and take place in person. The program will include a break of a few weeks in August to accommodate summer holidays. During this period, participants and mentors may remain in contact remotely, by mutual agreement.
